Call for Papers

Distance Learning is an important application of multimedia technology. This special session focuses on how the technology is currently used in distance learning systems, including multimedia authoring and presentation, Web-based learning, virtual environments, interactive video, and systems on mobile devices. Meanwhile, pedagogic theory should also be incorporated into the design of distance learning systems to add learning efficiency. This special session calls for papers which offer suggestions to the designers of future distance learning systems. Possible topics of interests include:

  • Distributed course-material databases, multi-modal query and Web document processing
  • Media server architectures, including peer-to-peer, multi-server and grid-based architectures
  • Techniques to support synchronous and asynchronous tutoring
  • Techniques to support collaborative and personalized learning
  • Integration of multimedia information, including images / audios / videos / graphics
  • Survey/overview that describes social and educational aspects of the technologies
